What is acne?
The sebaceous gland associated with the hair pores and is a gland that is producing oil. The sebaceous gland release sterols, in a form of oil, called sebum. The sebum usually drains out to the skin's surface. If the pores and the sebum gets blocked, then it is time for acne to happened. The internal changes are:
- Increase in large quantities of sebum.
- The ceratin lining of the sebaceous duct became thicker and lead to blackheads. Blackhead is due to melanin, not to be confused with dirt.
- The level of fatty acids are also increased.
- The sebaceous gland is inflamed as a result from the released of bacterial enzymes.
Hormones
The increasing in hormones leads to the production of large amount in sebum. As mentioned from above, sebum is the one that can clog the pores and causes acne.
The two most common types of acne.
Non-inflammatory type of acne:
Whitehead: sebum and bacteria are blocked inside skin.
Blackhead: sebum and bacteria are trapped deep inside the skin.
Inflammatory type of acne:
Papule: After a break in the follicular wall, the white blood cells move in and the hair pores are inflamed. Commonly called pimples.
Pustule: Zit or pimples
